The Information Technology and Applied Systems (ITAS) program was started in 1999 and since then we have hundreds of graduates working across Vancouver Island, in the Lower Mainland and internationally. Many of our graduates are working remotely. The ITAS program is not a traditional Computer Science or Engineering program and we have been able to remain agile by adapting our courses as technology quickly evolves. We are proud that all of our Instructors have actually worked in industry and can bring real-world experiences to the classroom environment.
Our classroom environment operates more like a company where students and faculty have dedicated classrooms where we meet four days a week from Monday-Thursday. Instructors typically introduce concepts for 1-2 hours and then spend the rest of the day working as team members with the students to complete labs or solve problems.
With the innovations in Large Language Models (LLMs) and ChatGPT we have embraced that machines can be a valuable tool solving technology problems. OpenAI programming interfaces are being used to enhance apps and learning how to manage cloud-based services is key to using modern AI infrastructure.

As an example we currently instruct Python as our initial programming language. This language can be used for a diverse range of applications from back end web programming to machine learning and artificial intelligence. Python is in demand by industry and major companies (e.g. Tesla) provide programming interfaces supporting this language.
